Sports: Leicester City FC receives warm welcome as they arrive in Singapore

2016 Premier League champions Leicester City FC were given a warm welcome to the Republic by many ardent fans at Pan Pacific Singapore on Thursday (27 July).

As they descended the team bus, the Foxes were greeted by cheers and claps from over 50 fans who had been waiting for as long as over three hours to see their favourite players, with the loudest shouts reserved for head coach Enzo Maresca and playmaker Jamie Vardy. Maresca, along with club legends Wes Morgan and Emile Heskey, also took the time to take selfies with and sign autographs to the delight of the crowd.

Leicester City FC are in town for the Singapore Festival of Football Driven by CDG Zig and will play holders Liverpool FC for the Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy at the National Stadium on 30 July.

In the opening match of the week-long football fiesta on 26 July, Tottenham Hotspur beat Lion City Sailors 5-1 to clinch the Tiger Cup. Premier League giants Liverpool FC will then defend their Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy against Leicester City FC before facing Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich in the Singapore Trophy presented by Audi and Standard Chartered on 2 August. Tickets for the final match are selling fast with just 1,000 left. The Reds will also hold an Open Training Session on 29 July.

Off the pitch, fans are encouraged to attend the Football Interactive Fanzone, which will be open on match days, Liverpool FC’s open training day, and 1 Aug prior to the Liverpool FC and FC Bayern Munich game. Fans will get the chance to meet club legends, giving them a once-in-a-lifetime moment with their football heroes. There will be photobooths, giveaways and performances, along with Q&A sessions with club legends. Fans can also meet the team mascots including Mighty Red of Liverpool FC and FC Bayern Munich’s Berni.
