Sports: One – Year Countdown to World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 organising committee unveils logo, tagline and event venues

Come 11 July 2025, Singapore will be hosting over 2,500 of the world’s best aquatics athletes across six sports at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025. At the one-year countdown event, Guest-of-Honour Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth & Social and Family Development , together with the co-chairs of the Singapore 2025 organising committee , unveiled the Singapore 2025 logo and tagline, ‘Water Shapes Us ’, at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. The event was attended by about 80 athletes and officials from the aquatics fraternity.

The values of adaptability and resilience are the main themes behind the logo and tagline. The tagline also underscores the theme for the championships, preparation , and the eventual celebration when Singapore stages one of aquatics’ most prestigious events. The event’s theme, ‘Water Shapes Us’ , encapsulates Singapore’s relationship with water and its significance in Singapore’s development and identity as a nation. Water shapes Singapore’s geography and is crucial in the nation’s economic growth. The tagline also demonstrates how the championships in Singapore will nurture and celebrate opportunities for collective achievement and camaraderie.

At the centre of the logo is the Merlion, an enduring symbol of Singapore that is recognised around the world and symbolises the strength and resilience of our people. The statue’s lion-head is representative of Singapore’s original name of Singapura and its lower half is representative of Singapore’s origin as a fishing village. In the background , water is flowing upward , representing progress and adaptability. To the right , the green flora represents our vision for a city in the garden. The colour red is inspired by the Singapore flag, while the vibrant colours represents Singapore ’s dynamism in culture.

Mr Alan Goh, Singapore 2025 organising committee co-chair person and Chief Executive Officer of Sport Singapore, said: “We are pleased to start the one-year countdown to the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 today. Singapore will be the first Southeast Asian country to host a World Aquatics Championships and this is a wonderful opportunity for Singapore as a maritime nation to celebrate our achievements in many water-related domains.”

Following this, Singapore will also host the World Para Swimming Championships in September 2025, making us the first country to host both championships in the same year. We hope that these events will inspire our next generation of aquatics athletes, and there will be plenty of opportunities for people to be a part of the many events and activities. Our organising committees are working hard to put together both world-class events, and we invite potential partners from the people, public and private sectors to join us in this whole – of-nation effort as we celebrate this remarkable milestone.”

Several iconic spots in Singapore will be transformed into competition venues from 11 July to 3 August 2025. At the Singapore Sports Hub precinct, a brand – new temporary facility with an estimated capacity of 4,800 seats will be built at Car P ark G , near the Kallang Tennis and Kallang Football Hub . The facility will host swimming and artistic swimming events. The sheltered facility will comprise two pools, spectator stands and a Fan Zone with interactive activities , merchandise areas, sponsors’ booths, and food and beverage stalls . The water polo and diving events will take place at t he OCBC Aquatic Centre at the Singapore Sports Hub.

The World Aquatics Championships action extends to Sentosa for open water swimming (Palawan Beach) and high diving (Palawan Green) . As the official venue partner, Sentosa will host the AQUA Fiesta , ensuring more fans of aquatic sports can experience world – class sporting action. Singapore is also hosting t he World Aquatics Masters Championships 2025, a mass participation event for local and international participants aged 25 and above . Singapore 2025 organising committee co-chair person and President of Singapore Aquatics Mr Mark Chay said: “Singapore has much to be proud of in our strength as a host nation. We have renowned facilities such as the OCBC Aquatic Centre, which has hosted numerous international competitions including the 2015 SEA Games. We’ll also see innovative use of available and suitable spaces such as Car Park G, located near the Kallang Tennis Hub and Kallang Football Hub, and well-known locations such as Sentosa. These identified areas will be transformed for high-level competition and for spectators to enjoy the best in aquatic sports. These venues highlight our status as a suitable destination for hosting top international sporting events, while also displaying our ability to be creative and adaptable so that we can deliver the best possible experience.”

Ms Thien Kwee Eng, Chief Executive Officer of Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) , said: “We are thrilled to welcome the world’s top – notch swimmers and athletes to Sentosa to participate in open water swimming and high diving as part of the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025. As a resort island destination, besides being a venue for world class competitions, participating athletes and visitors can enjoy a large variety of F&B offerings, many interesting indoor and outdoor activities, as well a s restorative and quality accommodation. In the coming year, SDC will collaborate with the Singapore 2025 organising committee to showcase the world-class experience at Sentosa to guests from around the world during the Championships.”
