World record holder Gretchen WALSH (USA) cruised to the women’s 100m butterfly gold medal in Championship Record time at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 on Monday (28 July). She clocked 54.73sec to finish on top of the podium and break Sarah SJOESTROEM’s (SWE) previous record of 55.53sec.
Coming in second was Roos VANOTTERDIJK (BEL) who clocked 55.84sec to win her country’s first swimming medal since Perth 1998, followed by Alexandria PERKINS (AUS) who swam a timing of 56.33sec.
Denis PETRASHOV (KGZ) also made history by clinching bronze in the men’s 100m breaststroke for his country’s first World Championships medal ever.

Team Singapore in action
Another stellar performance from Olympian GAN Ching Hwee saw her break a second national record in two days, this time in the women’s 1,500m freestyle. She swam a blistering 16min 1.29sec to smash her previous record of 16:10.13 set at the Paris Olympics and finish fourth overall, qualifying for the final on 29 July. Topping the field was Katie LEDECKY (USA), followed by Lani PALLISTER (AUS) and Simona QUADARELLA (ITA).

The swimming action continues at the World Aquatics Championships Arena tomorrow.
In addition, CHN won both diving finals on Monday (28 July) at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025, taking their total tally to five diving golds after two days of competition.
WANG Zongyuan and ZHENG Jiuyuan took men’s 3m synchronised springboard gold with their score of 467.31 to win China’s fifth straight world championships title in the event. Juan Manuel CELAYA HERNANDEZ and Osmar OLVERA IBARRA (MEX) placed second with 449.28 ahead of Jack LAUGHER and Anthony HARDING (GBR, 405.33). Singapore’s Max LEE and Ayden NG finished in 22nd place.
Newly-formed pair CHEN Yuxi and ZHANG Minjie, who first competed together in May, took the women’s 10m synchronised platform gold. They scored 349.26 points ahead of Gabriela AGUNDEZ GARCIA and Alejandra ESTUDILLO TORRES (MEX, 304.80) and PRK’s JO Jin Mi and KIM Mi Hwa (293.34).
China had earlier won the mixed team, mixed 10m synchronised and men’s 1m springboard events.
The diving competition at Singapore 2025 continues on 29 July with the women’s 3m synchronised springboard and men’s 10m synchronised platform events.
