Sports: Divers Matteo Santoro and Chiara Pellacani win Italy’s first gold at Singapore 2025; France’s Marchand shatters men’s 200m individual medley world record

Matteo SANTORO and Chiara PELLACANI (ITA) made history by winning their country’s first world title in the mixed 3m synchronised springboard event at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025 on Wednesday (30 July). It is Italy’s first diving gold medal at the world championships since 2015, when Tania CAGNOTTO won the women’s 1m springboard.

Santoro and Pellacani were in second place at the end of three rounds behind CHENG Zilong and LI Yajie (CHN), but overtook CHN in the fourth round as the latter dropped to third place. The Italians remained steady in the fifth round to close out the win with a final score of 308.13, ahead of Maddison KEENEY and Cassiel ROUSSEAU (AUS, 307.26) and CHN (305.70).

In the preliminaries of the women’s 10m platform, Singaporean debutante Ainslee KWANG scored a personal best of 285 to place 13th and qualify for Thursday’s semi-finals.

Diving at Singapore 2025 continues on 31 July with the men’s 3m springboard preliminaries, followed by the women’s 10m platform semi-finals and final.
