Trailing 2–1 from the first leg in Thailand, the Stags must overturn the deficit to book a place in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League Two, a milestone that would mark one of the most significant achievements in Singapore club football in recent years. Despite the narrow advantage, Bangkok United head coach Totchtawan Sripan insisted his side will not approach the match with a defensive mindset.
“We won’t go all-out attack, but we will play in our own style,” said Totchtawan during the pre-match press conference in Singapore. “We came here looking for a win. We want to keep our main characteristics as a team.”

The Thai side arrive with a slender lead but also without several key players. However, the Bangkok United coach downplayed concerns over squad absences. “Losing one or two players is normal in football,” he explained. “We have good squad depth and players with potential who can step in. I don’t see it as a big problem for us.”
Instead, Totchtawan emphasised preparation and mentality as the key priorities during the week leading up to the second leg. “Our main focus after the first match was recovery because we’ve played many games in a short time,” he said. “We also worked on motivating the players and keeping them focused. The 2–1 scoreline is not a big advantage, so we still need to perform well to qualify.”

Bangkok United forward Arthur Moura, who has often made an impact as a substitute this season, could take on a bigger role in the return leg. “I think it’s a good opportunity to show my best and help the team,” he said. “Sometimes I come on in the second half and try to make an impact, but if I start tomorrow I will do my best. I hope we can qualify for the next round.”
The Thai club are also wary of Tampines’ threat, particularly at home. “Tampines are a strong team,” Totchtawan said. “They are good in possession and very dangerous in transition. They also have disciplined players with quality, especially the Japanese players in their squad. We respect them a lot.”

On the Tampines side, interim head coach Robert Eziakor acknowledged that his team’s slow start in the first leg proved costly. “We conceded a few sloppy goals early and that changed the momentum of the game,” he admitted. “Tomorrow is a new match and we know what’s at stake.”
Despite the setback in Bangkok, the Singapore club believes they remain firmly in the tie. “We are one step away from the semi-finals,” Robert said. “Our focus is on cutting out individual mistakes and working hard to get the result we need.”

The coach also confirmed there are unlikely to be major tactical changes despite the defensive lapses in the first leg. “Mistakes happen in football,” he said. “You cannot change everything because of one or two errors. We have confidence in the players we have.”
Defender Jacob Mahler, who has recently returned to regular playing time after injury struggles, said the squad is motivated by the magnitude of the occasion. “I’m just happy to be playing week in, week out again,” Mahler said. “My confidence is growing and I’m enjoying my football.”

Heading into the decisive second leg, Mahler believes Tampines have the quality to turn the tie around. “We know we’re 2–1 down, so we need to score and create chances,” he said. “But we also know Bangkok are a strong team. It’s about staying focused for the full 90 minutes and taking our opportunities.”
More than just club pride is at stake for the Singapore side. “We’re not only playing for the club,” Mahler added. “We’re playing for Singapore as well. We want to create history.”
With a semi-final place on the line, both teams enter the match aware that the margins are razor thin. Bangkok United hold the advantage, but Tampines Rovers will count on home support at Jalan Besar to fuel a comeback. As Mahler summed up: “Everyone in the dressing room knows what this game means. It’s do or die, and we have to leave everything on the pitch.”
