The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has expressed its appreciation to partners for their ongoing support in advancing football in Singapore, while also urging continued collaboration to build on recent progress and strengthen the sport at all levels.
This message was delivered during a Partner Appreciation Ceremony held ahead of Singapore’s final AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Bangladesh at the National Stadium. The event was attended by prominent figures including Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Edwin Tong, and Baey Yam Keng.
The ceremony underscored the vital role that partners play in supporting Singapore football, from grassroots development and community engagement to the national team setup. Their contributions have enabled FAS to enhance its programmes and foster a more inclusive and sustainable football ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, FAS President Forrest Li highlighted the importance of sustained support as Singapore prepares for a major milestone. “In January 2027, Singapore will compete in the AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia. This is the greatest opportunity our national team has ever had to play on the regional stage. FAS will do everything possible to prepare our Lions for it,” he said.
He also stressed that continued backing from partners and the wider community will be essential to maintaining momentum. While expressing gratitude for the support received so far, he noted that more contributions would be needed, not only for the upcoming Asian Cup but also for the long-term development of the sport. “Singapore football cannot thrive without the support of the whole nation,” he added.
Singapore’s qualification for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 represents a significant achievement, marking its place on the continental stage on merit. Looking ahead, FAS emphasised that sustaining this progress will require ongoing investment in the national team, as well as strong and consistent support across the broader football ecosystem.
Encouraged by the commitment of its current partners, FAS called on more organisations and stakeholders to come forward and contribute to the continued growth and success of Singapore football.
