Sports: MSIG and the Football Association of Singapore ink three-year major partnership to strengthen local football

MSIG, Southeast Asia’s leading general insurer, has announced a three-year partnership with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) to support the long-term development of football in Singapore.

The partnership reflects MSIG’s belief in the power of sport to shape character, build communities, and create opportunities for young people. With a strong focus on youth development, MSIG’s investment will support initiatives across the Men’s and Women’s National Teams, National Age Group Teams, and the Singapore Premier League (SPL).

Mr Clemens Philippi, Chief Executive Officer, MSIG Asia, said:  “As a leading general insurer in Singapore, MSIG is proud to partner with the Football Association of  Singapore. We share FAS’ ambition to reignite the nation’s passion and pride for football, and to see  Singapore teams perform on the international stage once again, as they did in the glory days.

While our partnership supports Singapore football across all levels, we are especially focused on the next  generation. We firmly believe that investing in young people today is one of the most meaningful ways to  build a strong and sustainable future. Sport plays a powerful role in shaping character by instilling resilience, discipline and teamwork during the crucial formative years. These are values that stay for life, whether in  football, other pursuits or the corporate world. By opening up opportunities, we hope to help young footballers grow in character, pursue their ambitions and, possibly, one day represent Singapore on the world stage.

This partnership also builds on our broader, global commitment to sport. We have long supported athletes  in different fields, from women’s judoka and para-athletes in marathons to players from the Japanese national football team. In the Southeast Asia region, we are also proud to back the ASEAN Women’s MSIG  Serenity Cup, which is inspiring a new generation of girls to dream bigger, play stronger and lead with confidence.

Ultimately, this partnership reflects what ‘protecting goals and powering futures’ means to us: empowering young athletes today so they can become the leaders and role models of tomorrow.”

Mr Badri Ghent, General Secretary of the Football Association of Singapore, said:  “We are grateful for MSIG’s belief in Singapore football and their commitment to supporting the game at every level.

Their support allows us to continue strengthening our development pathways, invest in our youth, and create more opportunities for players to grow within the system.

Raising the standard of football in Singapore will require a collective effort, and partnerships like this are  an important step in the right direction. We hope more organisations will come on board to support the continued growth of the sport. We are committed to ensuring that this investment translates into  meaningful, long-term progress for Singapore football.”

Central to the partnership is MSIG’s role as a key sponsor of Singapore’s National Age Group Teams, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing the next generation of footballers and supporting their journey towards the highest levels of the game.

MSIG’s partnership builds on the strong foundations already established within Singapore’s football ecosystem.

Across schools, academies and grassroot programmes, structured development pathways have been put in  place to support young players in safe and professionally guided environments. More than 500 certified grassroots coaches now play a role in nurturing young talent, while nationwide outreach efforts continue  to introduce more boys and girls to the sport.

These efforts provide a strong platform for MSIG’s investment to make a meaningful and lasting impact, enabling more young players to access opportunities, develop holistically, and progress through football.

Beyond youth development, MSIG’s support will also extend to the highest levels of the game. Following the Singapore Men’s National Team’s qualification for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, MSIG will stand alongside the Lions as they prepare for the tournament in Saudi Arabia. The partnership will support  the team’s build-up to the competition, while also strengthening engagement between the national team and fans.

This includes branding across selected national team platforms, as well as fan engagement initiatives and exclusive experiences for MSIG customers and employees, such as meet-and-greet sessions, football clinics and matchday activations.

Through this partnership, MSIG and FAS aim to contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive football culture  in Singapore, one that encourages participation, supports development, and inspires the community and future generations.

As Singapore football continues to grow, FAS hopes that MSIG’s commitment will encourage more  organisations to come on board and play a part in supporting the development of the sport.
