Sports: Roving exhibition celebrating Singapore football to hit the heartlands ahead of Singapore’s final Asian Cup group match

A roving exhibition detailing the success of Singapore football in the last 30 years will hit the heartlands on 26 February – just in time to build up anticipation for the Lions’ 31 March final Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh.

With qualification for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 secured, the Singapore Men’s National Team now turns its focus to finishing its campaign strongly when it faces Bangladesh at the National Stadium.

The Lions secured their place at next year’s Finals following November’s 2-1 victory over Hong Kong – a result that ensured qualification on merit. As Head Coach Gavin Lee and his squad look ahead, the emphasis is on maintaining standards, building momentum, and delivering a strong final home performance in front of their supporters.

In the lead-up to the 31 March fixture, supporters will have opportunities to revisit the milestones that have defined the Lions’ journey and gain a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s football evolution.

At the heart of this is Through the Tunnel – a travelling exhibition developed in partnership with The Straits Times and Playback Asia. The showcase traces pivotal chapters in Singapore football, including Singapore’s first international trophy in 1998, through the Radojko Avramovic era of Southeast Asian dominance, culminating in that November night at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium, when the team made history and a nation proud.

Drawing on archival reportage and photography from The Straits Times, the exhibition captures the tension, heartbreak, and triumph that have shaped generations of supporters. Profiles of selected current players, alongside reflections from Captain Hariss Harun and Head Coach Gavin Lee, provide insight into the standards and mindset guiding the team today.

Through the Tunnel kicks off at Our Tampines Hub on 26 February before travelling to Bishan Community Club and Kallang Wave Mall in the weeks leading up to the home match.

The exhibition also features a range of collectable cards produced by Playback Asia in collaboration with FAS, commemorating iconic figures and moments from the game. These include cards marking the 30th anniversary of Singapore’s historic Malaysia League and Malaysia Cup double in 1994, as well as iconic moments from the 2-1 win over Hong Kong last November that sealed the Asian Cup qualification.

The exhibition schedule is as follows:

  • 26–27 February – Our Tampines Hub
  • 13–15 March – Bishan Community Club
  • 22–31 March – Kallang Wave Mall

As preparations intensify ahead of the Bangladesh fixture, the match presents an opportunity for supporters to gather at the National Stadium and play their part in the team’s final outing of the qualifying campaign. The match will be a celebration of the Lions’ historic Asian Cup qualifying campaign. Fans can look forward to festivities around the National Stadium – with live entertainment, fan zones and interactive activities set to build the atmosphere leading up to match day. From performances by celebrity artistes to themed exhibitions, and other pre-match festivities, match day will be a celebration of the team’s journey and the fans who have stood behind them throughout the campaign.

More details on what fans can expect to experience on match day will be announced shortly. But in the meantime, fans eager to be at the match can purchase tickets via Ticketek, the FAS website, and on match day at The Kallang Box Office (subject to availability).
