Sports: Inaugural Asian Speed Cubing Championships 2027 Officially Unveiled by Asian Mind Sports Association

The inaugural AMSA Asian Speed Cubing Championships 2027 will bring nearly 1,000 competitors, national teams and international clubs together for four days of speed, strategy and spectacle, with USD 100,000 in prize money up for grabs.

Something is about to get a lot faster in Asia. From 21 to 24 January 2027, the inaugural AMSA Asian Speed Cubing Championships will bring some of the continent’s fastest and most ambitious speed cubers together for a new four-day celebration of competition, community and mind sports.

Organised by the Asian Mind Sports Association (AMSA), the Championships are expected to welcome close to 1,000 athletes from 10 or more Asian countries and regions, alongside National/Regional Teams and clubs from around the world.

And there is plenty at stake: USD 100,000 in total prize money will be awarded across individual, team and club competition, making it the largest prize pool announced for a Speed Cubing championship in Asia.

But this is about more than who can solve a cube the fastest. The inaugural Championships are designed to bring together the people, communities and culture behind one of the world’s fastest-growing mind sports — from elite competitors and national teams to grassroots clubs, young athletes, organisers, brands and fans.

The Championships will unfold across four days, with each day offering a different side of the Speed Cubing world.

21 January will open the event with the AMSA Asian Speed Cubing Summit, Asian Speed Cubing Industry Exhibition and Opening Ceremony.

22 January will put the spotlight on individual competitors, as Asia’s leading speed cubers battle for the inaugural Asian individual championship titles.

23 January will shift the focus from individual brilliance to teamwork with the National/Regional Team Championship, bringing athletes together to represent their countries and regions.

And on 24 January, clubs will take centre stage for the Club Championship, followed by the Closing and Awards Ceremonies.

The result is a competition designed to showcase Speed Cubing from multiple perspectives — the individual athlete, the national team and the club community.

At the heart of the Championships will be the Individual Championship, where Asia’s leading competitors will compete for the honour of becoming the first AMSA Asian Speed Cubing champions.

Five events are currently planned:

  • 3x3x3 Cube
  • 3x3x3 One-Handed
  • 2x2x2 Cube
  • Pyraminx
  • Square-1

For spectators, the appeal is easy to understand: a scrambled puzzle, a countdown and then an astonishing display of memory, recognition, dexterity and precision unfolding in seconds. For the athletes, every fraction matters. The Individual Championship will put speed, consistency and competitive composure under the spotlight as some of Asia’s leading cubers compete on the same continental stage.

Speed Cubing may look like an individual pursuit, but the Championships will also put teamwork firmly in the spotlight. The National/Regional Team Championship will feature three events:

  • Team 3x3x3 All-Round
  • Mixed Team Relay
  • Three-Person Team Battle

Each team will consist of three official athletes and one reserve athlete. Representing a country or region adds another dimension to the competition, transforming individual speed and skill into a collective challenge. For young competitors in particular, the National/Regional Team Championship is intended to create a new opportunity to experience international-level competition while building connections with athletes from across Asia.

Perhaps the most unconventional element of the Championships will be the Club Championship. Unlike the National/Regional Team competition, the club competition is designed around an open international model. Eligible Speed Cubing organisations and companies in Asian countries and regions will be able to form club teams and recruit eligible athletes from around the world, subject to the competition regulations.

That means athletes will have an opportunity to compete for clubs beyond the organisations with which they normally train or compete.

The Club Championship will feature:

  • Five-Event Blind Three-Person Team Battle
  • Three-Event Team Relay
  • Shared Time Pool Ten-Event All-Round

With USD 60,000 allocated to the Club Championship — the largest share of the overall prize pool — the club competition is set to become one of the major attractions of the inaugural event.

The open participation concept also reflects the increasingly international nature of Speed Cubing itself, connecting Asian clubs with athletes and communities from around the world.

There will be serious competition for the inaugural titles — and a serious financial incentive too. The Championships will offer a total prize pool of USD 100,000, distributed across the three competition categories:

CompetitionPrize Pool
Individual ChampionshipUSD 30,000
National/Regional Team ChampionshipUSD 10,000
Club ChampionshipUSD 60,000
TotalUSD 100,000

The detailed prize distribution and payment regulations will be announced separately.

The size of the prize pool, particularly the USD 60,000 allocated to clubs, signals the organisers’ ambition to build a stronger and more internationally connected club ecosystem around Speed Cubing in Asia.

The Championships will begin with a day dedicated not only to competition, but to the wider Speed Cubing community. The AMSA Asian Speed Cubing Summit is expected to bring together representatives from Olympic Committees, mind-sports organisations, Speed Cubing associations and related institutions, alongside world champions, elite athletes and people working behind the scenes to develop the sport.

Topics are expected to range from athlete and youth development to competition structures, international cooperation and the future of Speed Cubing.

There will also be an inter-sport dimension, with world champions and leading athletes from other disciplines invited to share their experiences of pursuing excellence and becoming champions. For a sport built around split-second decisions, the conversations behind the scenes may prove just as interesting.

Running alongside the Summit will be the Asian Speed Cubing Industry Exhibition, bringing together companies and organisations from across the global Speed Cubing industry.

Products, technologies, services and new innovations will be showcased to athletes, clubs, organisers and industry professionals, creating a space for brands and the wider Speed Cubing community to connect.

For an activity that has evolved from a niche hobby into a highly organised international competitive discipline, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the ecosystem developing around the sport — from equipment and technology to events, training and community-building.

Speed Cubing has grown rapidly across Asia, particularly among younger participants, and the inaugural Championships are designed to give that growing community a continental stage.

The event will bring together competitors with very different backgrounds and levels of experience: elite individual athletes chasing titles, young competitors representing their countries and regions, and club teams built around international communities.

That mix is part of what makes Speed Cubing distinctive. A competition can be intensely serious while the wider community remains remarkably social — with athletes sharing techniques, comparing puzzles, travelling to competitions and forming friendships across borders. The inaugural AMSA Championships aim to build on that culture while giving it a more structured continental platform.

Ultimately, the AMSA Asian Speed Cubing Championships are about establishing a new chapter for the sport in Asia. By bringing individual, National/Regional Team and Club competition together under one continental event, AMSA aims to create a more connected competitive pathway for athletes and teams while encouraging greater exchange between countries, regions and the global Speed Cubing community.

For athletes, there will be new titles to chase. For clubs, a new international stage. For young competitors, the opportunity to represent their countries or regions. For the industry, a gathering point for brands, organisations and innovators. And for everyone who loves the satisfying click of a cube being solved at astonishing speed, four days of very serious fun.

The inaugural AMSA Asian Speed Cubing Championships will take place from 21 to 24 January 2027. The host city, final competition events, registration information, competition regulations, prize distribution and details of the Summit and Industry Exhibition will be announced progressively through official AMSA channels.
