Head Coach Gavin Lee has named the 23 players who will represent Singapore at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, which will take place from 24 September to 5 October.

The Lions will begin their Group A campaign on Friday, 25 September against hosts Indonesia before taking on Bangladesh three days later. They will conclude the group stage on Thursday, 1 October against Causeway rivals Malaysia.

Division 1 features eight teams split into two groups. The winners of each group will advance to the Final, while the runners-up will contest the Bronze Final.

Coming off the back of a strong run at the ASEAN Championship Hyundai Cup 2026, where the Lions reached the semi-finals and recorded a historic away victory over Thailand for the first time since 2009, Lee believes the team has more room to grow as the Lions continue their preparations for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.

“We have shown glimpses of what is possible and have made some encouraging progress over the last few months, so we want to continue building on that. At the same time, the relationship we have built with the fans is something we will not take for granted. We have to recognise that it is not an entitlement and we have to continue earning their support,” said the 36-year-old. “For that, we must stay humble and hungry, remove distractions as we want to put our attention on things that are important for us to achieve the desired performances.”

The squad features several changes from the group that represented Singapore at the ASEAN Championship Hyundai Cup, with defenders Safuwan Baharudin and Irfan Najeeb recalled to the National Team fold after missing the tournament. Forward Faris Ramli also earns his first call-up since last November.

Haziq Kamarudin earns his maiden National Team call-up after making steady progress with FC Jurong, with his recent performances in the Singapore Premier League further strengthening his case for selection.

“We have been following Haziq’s progress for a while now. There is the consistency of always trying his best and the willingness to do everything for the team. Those qualities are always important to form a strong group, and we look forward to seeing him in our environment,” Lee explained.

Looking ahead to the campaign in Indonesia, Lee expects another demanding test but sees the challenges as an important part of the team’s development.

“We expect a strong challenge at this competition. There will be good performances and difficult moments, but those experiences are necessary if we want to become a stronger National Team. What is important is how we respond to those bumps on the road, learn from them, and continue moving forward together.

“We are also grateful for the support and belief that has grown around the team. The players and staff have worked hard to earn that, and we know that it also comes with a responsibility. We have to continue putting in the work, maintaining the standards we have set for ourselves, and building on the progress we have made,” Lee added.
