Four days of international 3×3 basketball are coming to Singapore this August, with the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series making its local debut before the Singapore Challenger returns to the city.

Taking place at *SCAPE from 13 to 14 August, the Women’s Series will bring 16 teams from 13 countries to Singapore, including two home teams: Singapore and Lion City.

The Singapore side features Commonwealth Games players Lydia Ang, Han Xingyue, Jermaine Lim and Matilda Lai, while the Lion City team comprises Denise Choo, Lim Lek Kar, Choy Ting Tang and Kindra Sim.

For Lai, 20, playing against some of the world’s strongest 3×3 teams on home ground is an important opportunity ahead of the Asian Games.

“It also means a great deal to us to be able to play in front of our families, friends and Singapore supporters,” she said.

The action continues on 15 and 16 August with the FIBA 3×3 Singapore Challenger, marking the second Challenger event held in Singapore this year following the Lion City Challenger in June.

The men’s tournament will feature 16 teams from 15 countries, with the top three finishers earning a place at the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Malaga. Singapore will be represented by Zhenyu Ching, Xu Duanyang, Nur Aufa Emil and Mohamed Zahid, who recently competed at the Commonwealth Games and were part of Singapore’s SEA Games silver-medal-winning team.

For the homegrown players, the back-to-back tournaments offer more than an exciting weekend of basketball. With the Asian Games on the horizon, competing regularly against high-level international opposition gives Singapore’s men’s and women’s teams valuable preparation while allowing them to test themselves against some of the sport’s best.

The events are also part of a longer-term partnership between Sport Singapore and FIBA, under which Singapore will host two FIBA 3×3 Challenger events and one Women’s Series stop each year through 2031.

The country is also set to host the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in 2027, marking the first time the sport’s premier global competition will take place in Southeast Asia. The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup is scheduled to return to Singapore from 2028 for a further four years.

For basketball fans, that means Singapore is set to become an increasingly familiar stop on the international 3×3 calendar. For local players, it means more opportunities to compete at home, face world-class opposition and build towards the next generation of major international competitions.
