From world-class WTA action and free screenings to player meet-and-greets, food, drinks and interactive experiences, The Kallang is set to become a precinct-wide celebration of tennis from 19 to 27 September.

For nine days this September, The Kallang will be less about simply watching tennis and more about getting into the spirit of it.

The Singapore Tennis Open presented by BNP Paribas, Southeast Asia’s only WTA 500 tournament, arrives at The Kall from 19 to 27 September, bringing a line-up of international stars to Singapore, including World No. 5 Mirra Andreeva, Amanda Anisimova, regional favourites Alexandra Eala and Janice Tjen, and World No. 31 Leylah Fernandez, who has accepted a wildcard into the singles main draw.

But you don’t necessarily need a ticket to be part of the action. Alongside the tournament itself, The Kallang is transforming into a precinct-wide tennis festival, with free qualifying matches, live match screenings, player appearances, food and drinks, and a series of tennis-themed activities spread across the venue.

“The Singapore Tennis Open reflects our ambition to make The Kallang a destination for world-class sport and shared experiences. Alongside showcasing some of the world’s best tennis talent, we want to create opportunities for more people to engage with tennis and be part of the tournament atmosphere. Through a combination of free and accessible programming, we’re bringing the excitement of the event to fans, families and visitors across the precinct,” said Yazed Osman, Group Head, Events & Placemaking and Place Management, The Kallang Group and Co-Tournament Director of the Singapore Tennis Open.

The tournament gets underway with the qualifying rounds on 19 and 20 September at OCBC Arena, where admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis.

It’s an opportunity to catch rising international players competing for their place in the main draw, while Singaporean fans will also have a homegrown player to get behind. Team Singapore’s Eva Marie Desvignes has been awarded a qualifying wildcard by tournament organiser The Kallang Group, giving the young player the chance to take on international competition on home soil.

For those who prefer to follow the tournament with a little more atmosphere, Break Point Garden will become a social viewing hub from 21 to 27 September.

Located at Arena Park, Break Point Garden is designed as a communal destination for fans without tickets to the main tournament. Selected live matches will be screened throughout the week, giving groups of friends and families a chance to watch the action together rather than following the scores from afar. The concept takes inspiration from the communal energy of “Cat 100” areas at major concerts, with the tennis accompanied by DJ sets, food, drinks and interactive activities.

Among them is the Erdinger Stein Slide, where visitors can take part in a game for the chance to win exclusive merchandise. There’s also a new drink to try while you’re there. The Kallang Roar, a signature cocktail created exclusively for The Kallang, makes its debut during the tournament. Made with vodka, passionfruit and coconut, the drink takes its cue from the atmosphere of Singapore’s biggest sporting and entertainment events and is intended to become a recurring feature at selected events across the precinct.

Food trucks operated by Nosh. Singapore will also be on hand, serving crowd-pleasers including the Messy Patty burger and fish and chips.

For fans who want more than just watching from the stands, player meet-and-greet sessions will take place from 21 to 25 September at the Feel Alive Zone in Arena Park.

The sessions offer an opportunity to see some of the tournament’s players away from the court, with timings to be announced closer to the event. Visitors can check The Kallang’s event information for the latest updates on player appearances and timings.

There’s plenty for visitors to do between matches, too. At Kallang Wave Mall, a giant tennis playground will invite visitors to step into an oversized version of the sport, complete with giant rackets, inflatable tennis balls and a custom-built court.

Those looking for a more digital challenge can head to the Singapore Tennis Open Activation Truck at Stadium MRT Exit B, where users of The Kallang App who are registered for the The Kallang Kaki loyalty programme can take on a Reaction Challenge for the chance to win food and beverage vouchers.

The dedicated Singapore Tennis Open microsite within The Kallang App will also provide live scores, match information and tournament updates throughout the event.

The professional tournament is also part of a wider tennis programme at The Kallang. The Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup (STIC) returns to the Kallang Tennis Hub from 23 to 26 September, bringing together local and regional players. The tournament offers fans another chance to watch emerging talent while supporting the development of tennis in Singapore and across the region.

Before that, the Kallang Tennis Hub will host the World Tennis Asia 12 & Under Team Competition Finals from 15 to 19 September. The junior competition will bring together 26 boys’ and girls’ teams from across Asia, including India, China, Korea, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Indonesia. Team Singapore will compete in both the boys’ and girls’ events, with admission free for spectators.

With the Singapore Tennis Open at its centre, The Kallang’s September programme effectively turns the precinct into a celebration of the sport. from professional players and international competition to junior tennis, casual play, food, drinks and social viewing. And with several experiences available for free, visitors don’t necessarily need a match ticket to join in.
