Food For Now: Violet Oon’s new all-day Peranakan café and bakery Bibik Violet opens at Temasek Shophouse

Singapore’s culinary scene is about to get a vibrant new addition with the launch of Bibik Violet, an all-day Peranakan café and bakery opening on 29 September 2025 at the iconic Temasek Shophouse on Orchard Road.

Created by the Violet Oon Group, Bibik Violet pays tribute to the warmth and wisdom of the Bibik, the Peranakan aunty whose kitchen is always filled with comforting dishes, colourful kueh, and heartfelt stories. The new 54-seater café channels this spirit with a casual, fuss-free dining concept that celebrates tradition in a modern, approachable way.

Unlike its more formal sister restaurants, Bibik Violet brings the flavours of the Peranakan home kitchen to everyday dining. Guests can order easily via QR codes and enjoy wallet-friendly prices without compromising on authenticity. From breakfast to dinner, the menu captures the essence of family meals passed down through generations.

Kickstart the morning with kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and robust kopi brewed the traditional way, or opt for heartier options like Hae Bee Hiam Toast and Mee Siam. For lunch and dinner, comforting one-dish wonders such as Nyonya Laksa, Prawn Mee Soup, and Nasi Lemak take centre stage, alongside sharing plates like Kueh Pie Tee, Ngo Hiang, and Achar. Signature classics including Babi Pong Tay and Buah Keluak Pork Ribs complete the line-up for those craving a taste of heritage.

True to its bakery roots, Bibik Violet also offers a rotating selection of handcrafted Nyonya kueh and nostalgic bakes. Highlights include the Signature Orange Sugee Cake, Pandan and Gula Melaka Chiffon Cakes, and the café-exclusive Cempedak Cake. Traditional favourites such as Kueh Salat, Ang Ku Kueh, and Pulot Hitam Tart provide sweet bites of nostalgia, made in small batches daily.

Bibik Violet is housed in the beautifully restored Temasek Shophouse, a century-old landmark that blends heritage charm with contemporary purpose. Its interiors reflect the warmth of a Bibik’s kitchen, with vintage rattan furniture, Peranakan tiles salvaged from shophouses, and vibrant batik prints adding to the convivial atmosphere.

General Manager of Temasek Shophouse, Yvonne Tay, notes, “Food is a love language in Singapore. Bibik Violet enriches our community by honouring heritage storytelling through food that evokes comfort, familiarity, and joy.”

For those who want to extend the Bibik Violet experience, the café offers takeaway options and a growing retail line featuring traditional pandan kaya, kopi, and teh. Beautifully designed packaging makes these perfect for gifting or enjoying at home. Delivery services will also roll out soon, bringing Peranakan favourites straight to your doorstep.

To celebrate its launch, Bibik Violet is offering 10% off the first bill plus a welcome treat (kopi, teh, or pound cake) from 29 September to 30 November 2025. The first 30 customers during the opening weekend will also receive exclusive gifts, including kopi and pandan kaya.

Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, gathering with friends over hearty plates, or indulging in nostalgic bakes to-go, Bibik Violet promises one thing: you’ll leave with full bellies and fuller hearts.
