Singapore is about to raise a glass to one of the world’s most storied plants. On 27 September 2025, Chimichanga will host the inaugural Agave Festival Singapore at its VivoCity outlet — the nation’s first dedicated celebration of agave spirits. From 2PM to 5:30PM, guests will immerse themselves in a cultural journey through tequila, mezcal, cocuy, and more, paired with cocktails, food, and expert-led experiences.
Backed by the Embassies of Mexico and Venezuela in Singapore and the Mexico–Singapore Chamber of Commerce, the festival promises more than just tastings. It’s a deep dive into agave’s rich heritage, its craftsmanship, and its place in communities across Latin America.
Guests can look forward to:
- Over 30 types of agave spirits to sample, from Don Ramón to Machetazo.
- Unlimited margaritas and cocktails, including six inventive flavours like Flores de Verano and Cocuy del Trópico.
- Curated Mexican- and Venezuelan-inspired bites, such as Passion Fruit Tres Leches and Ceviche de Pescado.
- Guided tastings and talks, led by industry experts who will decode the history, flavours, and artistry behind every pour.
One of the biggest highlights will be the first-ever introduction of Cocuy to Asia. An artisanal spirit from Venezuela’s Lara State, Cocuy is crafted from the wild green agave plant (Agave cocui Trelease). For centuries, indigenous communities have smoked and distilled this plant into a smooth, herbaceous spirit with a lighter touch than mezcal. To mark the debut, Chimichanga and Na’Guará Cocuy will also launch a limited SG60 edition: just 60 hand-blown glass bottles available exclusively at Chimichanga.
“It is with immense pride and heartfelt emotion that I witness this milestone moment; the arrival, for the very first time in the history of Asia, of the emblematic Venezuelan spirit known as Cocuy. This achievement has been made possible through the inspiring collaboration between our Embassy in Singapore and the vibrant team of Chimichanga, whose visionary team, represented Singapore at the 1st International Congress of Entrepreneurs held in Caracas in April 2025,” said Jessica María López Piña, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Singapore.
For the uninitiated, agave is far more than tequila’s raw material. This hardy succulent, native to Mexico, takes up to 15 years to mature and has been a symbol of resilience and abundance for centuries. Its heart, or piña, provides natural sugars used to make tequila and mezcal, while its fibres and nectar support countless traditional uses.
- Tequila comes exclusively from Blue Weber agave, produced mainly in Jalisco, and is known for its bright, clean profile.
- Mezcal can be made from over 30 types of agave, often roasted in underground pits for its distinctive smoky character.
- Cocuy, Venezuela’s cultural patrimony, is a 100% organic, herbaceous spirit produced in small artisanal batches.
Festivalgoers will have the chance to discover acclaimed producers such as:
Na’Guará Cocuy de Penca, La Cofradía, Don Ramón, Patron, Mala Idea Mezcal, Motel Mezcal, Machetazo, Loca Loka, and more.
With its vibrant mix of tastings, cocktails, food, and heritage, the inaugural Agave Festival Singapore 2025 brings an afternoon of spirited fun and cultural connections. Whether you’re a seasoned agave enthusiast or simply agave-curious, this first-of-its-kind celebration at Chimichanga VivoCity promises a historic toast to tradition, innovation, and community.
