Food: Japan’s #1 YAKITORI Chain Torikizoku Lands in Singapore with its Biggest-Ever Outlet at VivoCity

Japan’s leading yakitori chain, Torikizoku, is set to make its long-awaited debut in Singapore with a flagship opening at VivoCity on 29 May 2026. Marking a major milestone in the brand’s international expansion, the new outlet also stands as its largest in the world.

Spanning 174 seats, the restaurant brings together both an indoor dining space and an alfresco area overlooking the waterfront promenade. Designed as a lively yet approachable dining destination, it introduces Torikizoku’s signature comfort-first izakaya experience to Singapore—one built around casual gatherings, shared plates, and easygoing enjoyment.

At the heart of the concept is accessibility without compromise. True to its long-standing philosophy, Torikizoku offers all food and non-alcoholic beverages at a flat $3.90++ per item, making it a rare dining model that balances quality Japanese comfort food with everyday affordability. Kids’ meals and alcoholic beverages are priced at $9.90++, keeping the experience flexible for different occasions and groups.

The menu stays faithful to its Osaka roots, with grilled skewers taking centre stage. Each order of yakitori comes in sets of two skewers, featuring the brand’s signature KIZOKUYAKI line—jumbo skewers that are notably larger than standard portions. Available in sauce, salt, and spice variations, the sauce-based skewers highlight a secret tare recipe that has been refined and passed down for over 40 years.

Among the standout items is the KIZOKUYAKI Chicken Thigh & Leek (Sauce), a classic pairing that showcases Torikizoku’s balance of flavour and simplicity. Juicy chicken is grilled over charcoal, glazed in savoury-sweet sauce, and complemented by leek that adds gentle sweetness and depth without overpowering the dish.

Beyond skewers, the menu expands into comforting Japanese staples designed for shared enjoyment. The Chicken Kamameshi—served in a traditional claypot and cooked at the table—combines rice, chicken, and vegetables into a hearty, aromatic dish. Another highlight, the Grilled Fluffy Grated Yam, offers a light, airy texture with a subtle savoury profile, acting as a comforting counterpoint to the richer grilled items.

The Singapore opening also introduces a playful touch through its introductory promotion running from 15 to 30 June. Diners can take part in the “3.9 Seconds Challenge” during checkout, where hitting exactly 3.90 seconds wins a complimentary meal with the entire bill waived. Those who fall within a close range receive a collectible Torikizoku plushie, adding a light-hearted twist to the dining experience.

Founded in Osaka in 1985 by entrepreneur Tadashi Ōkura, Torikizoku has grown from a single neighbourhood yakitori shop into a nationwide institution with nearly 700 outlets globally. Its enduring appeal lies in a simple but powerful idea: making freshly grilled yakitori and Japanese comfort food accessible to everyone, without losing sight of quality or tradition.

Now, with its Singapore debut, the brand continues its international journey with an ambition that goes beyond expansion. Torikizoku hopes to elevate yakitori to global recognition alongside Japan’s most iconic culinary exports, while preserving the warmth and familiarity that define its roots.

The opening at VivoCity signals the introduction of a slice of Japan’s casual dining culture to one of Singapore’s most vibrant waterfront destinations, positioning Torikizoku as both a neighbourhood-style hangout and a new lifestyle dining spot for the city.

Torikizoku will begin welcoming guests with a soft opening on 29 May, ahead of its grand launch on 15 June, where founder Tadashi Ōkura will be present to commemorate the occasion. More information available here
